We are ordinary people

The two common phrases I hear men reiterate are:

  • Men are more likely to be born without value

  • Men live day to day in quiet desperation

Observing men in groups and of course, from personal experience, they tend to love feeling powerful. While the status quo of successful people would advocate such feelings to occur due to well earnt achievements, the reality is that many men and women, thrive off impunity.

Impunity is defined by the Oxford dictionary as "exemption from punishment or freedom from the injurious consequences of an action."

We live in two minds, perhaps the greatest cognitive dissonance for the modern human. One mind which understands rationally, that "Rome was not built in a day." The other, which wishes it could be. This eternal and inherent inner conflict combined with the social paradigms of our time, exacerbate 'quiet desperation'. And I don't think it's just for men, although biologically and socially, I can understand why men seem to be in the spotlight more for 'quiet desperation'. For example, according to Collabstr 2023 Influencer Marketing Report, 77% of influencers actively monetizing their content are female, while the other 23% are male.

Looking back at 2023 and then, my life so far... There were many bursts of bravados. Like battles in a war, I had similar sensational sentiments I had consciously or unconsciously assigned for these bravados. And ultimately, these were my answers to the big question, "What is going to happen to me in my life?"

I quickly jot the things I'd like to work on in 2024.

  • I want to embody more traits of a marathon runner, rather than that of a sprinter: more valve than a switch.

  • I want to embody more traits of an 'entertainer': to re-energise my social batteries renewably, from the genuine happiness of other people. This feels biologically true, humans are communal creatures.

  • And as mentioned above, minimising bravados and building certainty, accumulated over years of discipline and faith.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me progress this year. Love and peace.

Harrison
